Rob Folland was shocked after being included in a provisional squad of 24 for Wales Under 21's matches against Armenia and the Ukraine in March.
Folland, who has not even been on the bench since David Kemp has been in charge, has represented his country once before, playing against Northern Ireland in a 2-2 draw in the Presidents' Cup.
Rob Folland"I'm very surprised because I haven't been playing matches recently and am very much out of favour here," he said.
"I haven't been involved with the first team recently, and have even been left out of the reserve team."
And Folland is hoping that if he does make it to the final squad, it might give him a chance to show what he can do.
"I'm hoping I do get into the final squad because it gives me a chance to play football again," he added.
The UEFA Under 21 Championship matches are due to be played on Friday, March 23 against Armenia in Abovyan, and on Tuesday, March 27 against the Ukraine at Swansea's Vetch Field.
