A new police-led Prince's Trust scheme is looking for its first batch of recruits, writes Emma Henry.
The course, which will be led by Insp Kevin Albin of Thames Valley Police, offers young people the chance to learn a range of skills while helping their local community.
The joint initiative between Thames Valley Police, the county council and Thames Water allows up to 15 people aged between 16 and 25 the chance to join the 12-week scheme. Starting on March 19, it is free of charge.
The group will be given tuition on everything from leadership skills and time management to co-ordinating projects and fundraising.
They will also work on a community scheme, for which they will have to raise the funds as well as provide the hard work.
While not specifically targeted at young people who come from troubled backgrounds, Insp Albin believes it can offer volunteers a chance to turn their lives around if they have had problems in the past.
He said: "I believe that this is a tremendous opportunity for young people to develop themselves."
Anyone who would like to take part in the scheme, or knows someone they think might benefit, can call Insp Albin on 01865 246969.
