An improved second-half display could not prevent Witney falling to a 16-5 defeat away to Swindon on a heavy pitch.
Swindon scored two tries and two penalties in the first period.
Witney played a great deal better after the break and should have had more to show for their efforts than a solitary try from full back Luke Hollick.
The game finished on a sour note when Witney flanker John Campbell was taken to hospital after a nasty clash of heads.
Oxford University's trip to Dublin to play Trinity College on Saturday morning ended in disappointment, when the match was called off due to a frozen pitch.
