Littlemore eased their relegation worries when John Keown burst through to score the try that earned them a 31-26 victory in a rousing Division 1 contest at home to Wallingford.

At half-time, it looked as though Littlemore would win easily. With their pack dominating the set-pieces, they scored two tries from lock Darren Springer and another from No 8 Dick Rudman to lead 18-7.

Chris Hunt's penalty completed their first-half tally, while Wallingford replied with a try by centre Leon Bowd, converted by Gareth Williams.

After Hunt landed a second penalty, Wallingford decided to chance their arm by running the ball from deep, which caught the home defence napping.

Tries quickly followed by full back Henry Venners and second row Roddy Gibson, one of which was converted.

Littlemore then managed to force their way over from a line-out to go seven points clear.

Venners, who enjoyed a great game, then scored the try of the match under the posts, and Williams's conversion levelled the scores.

It looked as if the game was heading for a draw, but Keown had the final say deep into stoppage time.

Wheatley maintained their charge at the top of Division 2 with a 36-6 victory over Winslow, despite being without seven first-team regulars.

The Oxon side led only 10-6 at half-time after a try by centre Neil Martin plus a penalty and a conversion from Jason Laman.

The second half belonged to inside centre Matthew Chadbone, whose strong running brought him two tries and set up another.

Scrum half Andy Caldicott also darted over, and with Laman adding three conversions, Wheatley were able to use a number of replacements in the closing stages.

Abingdon received a walkover when Didcot were unable to field a side for the second time this season.
