People using the Redbridge park and ride in south Oxford gave the proposals a frosty reception today.
If the move goes ahead, the city council's proposal would double parking charges at the city's four park and ride car parks.
As well as the new 1 parking fee, people travelling in to the city centre would still have to pay the 1.50 return bus fare or 6.50 per week, 220 a year.
Les Sansom, 47, of Chalgrove, said the move was "incredible". He said. "What choice do we have? I'd understand another 20p, but to double it?"
Morris Slaymaker, 53, from Abingdon, buys a 200 annual bus ticket. He said the move would be a U-turn by council officials.
"We were told to use park and ride and now we are being penalised for it," he said.
Lesley Mills, of Wantage, said: "I'm going to drive in now. I won't pay that. It's absolutely ridiculous."
Steve Smith, 43, of Abingdon, said: "It's a bit much. Parking is so expensive in the centre, so it leaves us with no choice.
But Kate Woolley, 25, of Sutton Courtenay, said she was not surprised. "It is quite expensive, but they are looking after the cars," she said. "I will still be using park and ride. They have got us over a barrel."
And Luke Rymell, 18, from Garsington, said: "It's quite a big difference, but it's still going to be cheaper than parking in the city centre."
