Teenagers got together to discuss issues relevant to their age group.

Members of Oxford Youth Council discussed leisure facilities and curfews for young people with their counterparts from Rochdale Youth Forum at Oxford Town Hall yesterday.

Votes on the two subjects showed that a narrow majority of youth councillors were in favour of curfews and tagging for troublesome youngsters but there was unanimous agreement that leisure facilities were inadequate.

Oxford's 25 youth councillors, aged 12 to 16, are elected by their schools.

Lord Mayor of Oxford Maureen Christian said: "A lot of young people and women think that politics is nothing to do with them. I think we've got to start getting people involved in politics at an earlier age to strengthen our democracy."
