Lucky little schoolboy Daniel Murphy, who fell asleep in bed watching a video, was rescued by his sister when the television set burst into flames.
Seven-year-old Daniel's 16-year-old sister Charmaine was downstairs in the family's living room at the two-storey terraced house in Hogarth Place, Abingdon.
She was nursing her three-day-old baby daughter when she thought she heard exploding noises and went upstairs to investigate.
She opened her brother's bedroom door to see flames shooting from the boy's television set.
Charmaine roused Daniel from his bed, led him out, closed the door and telephoned the fire brigade.
The fire crew managed to contain the blaze to the bedroom, but could not save the furniture which was destroyed.
Smoke, which had filled much of the house, blackened the upstairs rooms.
Insurance assessors were calculating the damage today.
Daniel and Charmaine's mother Jacky Murphy said she and her husband had been out.
They returned to see the fire crew tackling the blaze.
Mrs Murphy said: "Fortunately my daughter had heard a noise which sounded like an explosion and went upstairs to investigate.
"Her newborn baby slept through all the commotion.
"Had Charmaine not been here the outcome could have been far more serious.
"I think Daniel has learnt his lesson now no more television or video watching in bed."
