The mysterious space down the back of a sofa is the scene for the play Bewilderness, which opened at the Playhouse last night.
Bewilderness stars Hamish MacColl, Sean Foley and Charlbury actor Freddie Jones who appeared in the films, The Elephant Man and Far from the Madding Crowd.
In the play, Mr MacColl and Mr Foley, who also helped write Bewilderness, hold an impromptu seance during a power cut. A voice claiming to be their father calls them from behind the sofa and the two men slip between the cushions and discover a terrifying, upholstered world beneath.
Bewilderness won an Olivier Award in 1999 for best double act.
It runs at the Oxford Playhouse, Beaumont Street, until Saturday.
