NO sooner has the William Hill Trafalgar Cup been decided, and it's time to swing into action for Oxford's top gtreyhound race of the year, The Arthur Young on Course 7,500 Pall Mall Stakes.
Tuesday sees no less than 42 dogs including last year's victor El Boss being put through their paces in seven divisions of the Pall Mall Trial Stakes.
Other runners include Chelsea footballer Dennis Wise's Henryaliemma, who finished second in an open at Oxford on Tuesday, Sonic Flight, Bobs Delight and Westmead Woofa, who are all trained by Nick Savva.
Winocals Dream, Jane Marjoram's big Oxford winner, Cardigan and Cashel Storm, who is trained by former Oxford handler Graham Holland, are also in the line-up.
It promises to be another very hot contest come the final on Sunday, March 26.
The Pall Mall Trial Stakes are supported by three highly competitive Witney-prefixed opens, in which Springbok winner Rossa Ranger will be out to redeem himself after having to give best to local hero Lord Pat on Tuesday.
Ron Bicknell's charge, a former track record holder over the course and distance, didn't let Rossa Ranger's big win at Wimbledon four days before upset him in the Woodstock Hurdles.
The white and brindle burst clear from the traps and made all the running before just holding out by a short head from Ballmac Keano, posting a fine 27.46, with Ranger in arrears.
Another attraction this Tuesday is Graham Holland's top hurdler Boatrace Dennis.
Trafalgar Cup failures Senahel Ridge, Kinda Magic and Blackdan Beara clash in the Witney Puppy Stakes, while Oxford's greyhound of the year, Trade Contender, takes in the Witney Stayers for trainer Maurice Massey.
