Witney once again let a winning position slip away and ended up giving all three points to Hastings in the Dr Martens Eastern Division.
Richard Bourne went close after only two minutes when his lob bounced wide of the unguarded Hastings goal, and the same player then missed out with only keeper Kessell to beat.
It was a case of third time lucky for the Witney striker a minute later, however. A long cross by Dunton found Bourne again and this time he found the back of the net.
Hastings fought back and several long distance shots by McArthur went close, while one great tackle from Steve Tavinor saved a certain equaliser.
Going into the break 1-0 up, Witney found themselves under the cosh in the second half, letting in three goals in ten minutes.
David James headed in from close range, Yates made it 2-1 after a goalmouth scramble, and then James headed in his second with Witney's defence looking on.
Hastings could have added to their score on several occasions, while Witney never looked like getting back into the game apart from a last-minute header over the top from Murphy.
Witney Tn: King, Dunton (Whalley 85), Radcliffe, Cook, Murphy, Tavinor, Knight, Maskell, Bourne (Neville 65), Swann, Hendra (Burnley 75).
