Inspector Morse creator Colin Dexter was today due to receive the highest accolade of Oxford as he becomes an honorary Freeman of the City.
Honour: Colin Dexter City councillors decided to award the author with the honour because of his literary contribution, which has helped the city become one of television's most popular destinations.
Mr Dexter's Oxford-based novels about Morse, and his sidekick Sgt Lewis, were adapted for television for 13 years, until the much-loved policeman died in the final episode last year.
Lord Mayor Cllr Maureen Christian said: "The Freedom of the City's an important historic event, which everyone is welcome to attend. Colin Dexter has contributed enormously to the life of the city and it would be wonderful if local people could join us for this celebration."
The ceremony will take place at Oxford Town Hall at 4.30pm.
