Breaking away: Abingdon's Richard Bray on the run against Harwell
The home pack secured enough possession to have won comfortably, but basic handling errors led to opportunities being lost.
They did score one try through No 8 Dick Rudman when he picked up and drove over from a five-metre scrum. Fly half Gary Edwards added the conversion and two penalties.
In Division 2, Xavier Lecocq landed four penalties and a conversion as Abingdon beat Harwell 19-3.
Although Harwell were under pressure from the home pack, they defended stoutly and conceded just the one try from Abingdon full back Tom Clarke.
