When Oxford Harlequins conceded 50 points at Windsor earlier this season, they laid the blame at a colour clash between the two teams.
Kitted out: Oxford Harlequins in their new strip
"I reckon the clash caused us to concede about four tries,' explained Quins spokesman Roger King.
The trouble was that both teams played in quartered shirts, with three of the four colours identical.
So, for the return Southern Counties North league clash at Horspath Road on Saturday, resourceful Quins ordered a new changed strip, as the home team are responsible for switching in the event of a clash.
However, Quins new shirts contained the same colours as the old, but in a new pattern - stripes rather than squares, as you can tell from the picture.
The result of the game was a 19-7 win for Windsor, so Quins managed to close the gap on the league leaders.
Although the two teams colours looked similar, there was no obvious clash.
However, the referee disallowed one obvious Quins try because he was "unsighted."
I wonder if he was really unable to tell between the two sides.
Perhaps, the next time Quins consider an alternative strip, it might be an idea to change the colours as well!
