Wantage Liberal Democrats have called on MP Robert Jackson to back demands for free long-term nursing care.
Neil Fawcett, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for the area, called on the constituency's MP to sign an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons calling for free care for elderly people with chronic and long-term illnesses.
At the moment, elderly people with long-term illnesses are means-tested before their care is decided upon.
He said: "At present there is an unfair and confusing line between health care, which is free, and other forms of long-term care, which are charged for."
He added: "We are calling on the Government to make long-term nursing and personal care free to those who need it."
