Dressed in flowers and their best clothes, children danced around the maypole as part of a traditional village festival.
Danielle PreeceMay Queen, Danielle Preece, ten, was carried on a handcart through the village of Towersey, near Thame, with two attendants, her brother Michael, six, and Sally Lucas, six.
Jim Lucas and his son, Billy, carried the children from Windmill Close to the village green.
The Rev Ian Mountford, of St Catherine's Church, Towersey, led a short service on a stage on the green. Then 24 children, all aged under 11, danced traditional May Day dances around a maypole, holding 16 ribbons attached to the pole.
The Towersey Morris Men performed afterwards.
There were stalls selling pottery, teddy bears, children's bric a brac and hot dogs. Organised by the Parochial Church Council of St Catherine's, the festival has been taking place annually since 1969.
Jilli Wade, who choreographed the children's dancing, said: "We had more than 20 children dancing, which is a record number."
