A Didcot teacher is more than half-way through a sponsored slim to raise money for a special chair for one of her disabled pupils.

Rosie Jackson is a nursery teacher at the King Fisher special needs school in Radley Road, Abingdon.

Her target is to raise £900 to buy a tailor-made chair for four-year-old Rebekah Smith, who has cerebral palsy.

Mrs Jackson is reluctant to say how much weight she aims to lose, but said: "I am making excellent progress and within the next few weeks I shall have reached the financial target.

"Everyone at the school is joining in and I have received support and encouragement from friends in Goring, where I lived before coming here."

Rebekah is the daughter of Wendy and Gary Smith. She is a bright pupil, but needs a special chair so she can be more comfortable when she works with her school friends.

Mrs Smith said: "It would make the world of difference for Rebekah to have a new chair."

Mrs Jackson, who lives at Millbrook, Didcot, can already count on £300. She directs the Goring Pantomime Players who have chipped in with more than a £100 and members of the Goring Bridge Club have collected £100.
