Clapton 1, Abingdon Tn 1 ABINGDON Town closed their Ryman League Division 3 season with a draw at the Old Spotted Dog ground on Saturday.
At what must rank as the worst facilities in the League, it was a credit to both sides that they were able to play anything resembling football on a surface that was devoid of any preparation.
Abingdon's own preparations were not good, with their coach delayed by heavy traffic, arriving only minutes before the scheduled kick-off.
Passing was difficult and first time control near impossible on the surface.
Clapton took the lead in the 73rd minute when Abingdon's defenders dropped off, allowing Bragg to fire past Jon Beames.
Despite enjoying most of the possession, Abingdon struggled to find any cohesion and penetration with their final ball letting them down, after they had worked good openings.
It took the introduction of young substitute Adam Oram to get Abingdon back into the game.
His incisive run saw him connect with the ball from a near impossible angle. His effort looked to have crossed the line as a despairing home defender, in attempting to clear, only succeeded in hitting into his own net.
Since the arrival of manager, Alan Thorne, they have won five out of the 13 games played and drawn a couple more to give themselves some hope of improved results next season.
Abingdon Tn: Beames, Thomas, Burden, Gill, Price, Parkhurst, Morgan (Brown), Gardner, Dixon, Beauchamp, Douglas (Oram). Sub not used: Holman.
