Witney Town 3, Erith & Belvedere 0
THE game that could prove to be Witney's last in the Dr Martens League at least saw them bring this difficult season to a close with a resounding victory.
There was a strange atmosphere around Marriott Stadium at kick-off, as so many people remain unsure about the club's future.
Perhaps, not surprisingly, the first half of this Eastern Division game was a largely uneventful affair, with Geoff Neville's pace causing problems for the Erith defence and Keith Knight going close on 45 minutes.
The introduction of half-time substitutes Paul O'Hare and Mick Cook changed the game for Witney.
Within three minutes, O'Hare latched on to a ball in the penalty area and bundled home to open the scoring.
After 50 minutes, Erith's keeper got his hands to Cook's stinging shot, but Neville was quickest to prod home the rebound.
Knight almost increased Witney's lead before O'Hare bagged his second of the afternoon in the 57th minute.
Neville's cross from the left appeared to elude everyone, before Witney's young striker smashed the ball home from an implausibly tight angle.
Witney dominated the rest of the game but could not add to the score.
The home fans cheered every touch of the ball determined to enjoy what could be the club's last game at this level.
With the fixtures now completed, only one question remains. What happens now ?
Witney Tn: King, Murphy, Radcliffe (Whalley 60), Dunton (Cook 45), Maskell, Tavinor, Knight, Caffel, Swan (O Hare 45), Burnley, Neville. Attendance: 141.
