The new headteacher of Wallingford School is to be Jerry Owens, the current head at Langtree School in Woodcote.
Wallingford School's governors selected Mr Owens from a shortlist of eight candidates of six men and two women.
Chairman of governors Graham Cooper said: "It was a strong field, but Jerry's qualities and vision shone through. We are delighted he is going to join us."
Mr Owens is well known in the area, having been headteacher at Langtree for 15 years.
Mr Owens said he looked forward to "building on the hard work already undertaken" at Wallingford School.
He added: "I want to help students to leave school with the best results possible.
"But I also want to help them leave with the confidence and skills so that they are already playing a full part in determining their own futures, with the vision and desire to continue to learn and grow throughout their lives."
