Police are investigating after an articulated lorry fully loaded with carpets overturned, causing traffic chaos.
The dual carriageway in Marcham Road, Abingdon, near the Miele domestic appliance factory, was partially blocked for 13 hours .
The lorry had come off the A34 at the Marcham intersection and was making its way to the Carpets International depot at the nearby Fairacres business park when it turned on its side, straddling the central reservation and demolishing a lamp standard.
The driver escaped injury.
Staff used fork lift trucks to remove the cargo. Then the heavy articulated vehicle had to be recovered before electricity engineers got to work on making safe the lamp standard.
The accident caused delays as vehicles were forced into a single lane.
