Dozens of cars could be diverted away from the gates of a village primary school with the introduction of a new scheme.
Every morning, pupils from Dr Radcliffe's Primary School will meet up outside the White Lion pub in Steeple Aston and walk the half-a-mile to school with adult supervision. The idea has been launched by a group of parents worried at the number of cars arriving and parking in the narrow road outside the school gates. It is estimated that more than 100 of the school's 181 pupils arrive by car.
Rose Todd, a parent governor, said: "It is surprising that there has not been an accident because so many cars are outside the school."
Head teacher, Mrs Penny Heptonstall, said: "This is a great idea. I hope it will ease the traffic congestion outside the school in the mornings."
