A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital after fire broke out at a house last night.
The man, who has not been named, escaped from the house in Priory Lane, Burford, and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, suffering from the effects of smoke.
More than 30 firefighters tackled what was described as a "severe fire" in the attic of the three-storey building. A fire service spokesman said smoke detectors were without batteries.
