A new website on schizophrenia developed at Oxford University has been launched by NHS Direct Online.
The site aims to answer the questions most frequently asked by patients and their carers and offers advice about living with and managing the illness.
Staff at Oxford University's Centre for Evidence-based Mental Health designed the web pages to help combat the feeling of isolation many patients experience.
Andre Tomlin, director of knowledge services at the centre, said: "We designed the schizophrenia website in collaboration with NHS Direct Online to ensure that people faced with a diagnosis of the condition are only a click away from information and advice."
Schizophrenia affects one person in every 100.
About a quarter of sufferers treated for the illness recover within weeks or months and it never returns.
Anyone who wants to access the new website can log on to it at www.nhsdirectnhs.uk/schizophrenia.
