ALAN Judge, the organiser of tomorrow's reunion at the Manor Ground of the Oxford United and Queens Park Rangers teams from the 1986 Milk Cup final, believes a brilliant day is in prospect.
The charity match looks set to be a fun-filled walk back into United's golden era with many players returning after many years for the Manor Ground's final game.
Famous faces from the early 60s through to the present day will be in abundance both on and off the pitch after former players, managers and staff have confirmed their intention to be here.
Oxford's original Milk Cup team from 1986 has been reunited almost in its entirety and will be joined by QPR players from the same era.
For many United fans, it will be their first chance to see former heroes such as Gary Briggs, Trevor Hebberd and Billy Hamilton in more than a decade and, for some supporters, it will be the first time they have seen them since the day they left the Manor.
The teams will be led out onto the pitch by former Oxford United and QPR manager Jim Smith, as well as Mary and Paul Evans, the widow and son of manager Maurice Evans, who died from a heart attack last year.
Goalkeeper Judge, who still coaches at the club, has organised the day to raise money for The Oxford Cancer Centre & Redevelopment of Cancer Services and Colorectal Surgery at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals.
He said: "This is going to be a great day for all age groups for a brilliant cause. Even people who know they can't make it have bought tickets because they want to donate something to the charity.
"A lot of big footballing names are going to come along. No-one has rejected our invitation and I have even had people contacting me saying they have heard it is going on and they want to be a part of it.
"The game will kick off at 2.30pm with as many original Milk Cup players as possible playing. There are one or two who cannot play due to long-term injuries but they are still coming to watch."
Nick Johnson, the former United commercial manager, will give a running commentary during the game.
A raffle to be held includes some prizes such as a day out at Silverstone, a golfing day with lunch for two at Studley Wood Golf Course, signed Oxford United shirts and a Stanley tool box with £100 worth of tools in it.
Tickets for the game are on sale now from United's ticket office at £5 for adults and £2 for under 16s and over 65s. However, tickets will also be available on the day from 10am. Supporters can also gain entry by paying cash from 1pm at the Beech Road turnstiles to stand or sit, and from the London Road turnstiles to stand.
