Marauders, a side containing three England internationals won the International Henley Sevens title when beating NIG Scottish Thistles 15-14 in the final at Dry Leas .
Marauders' side boasted two players - Dave Scully and Chris Sheasby - who helped England to win the Sevens World Cup at Murrayfield in 1993. They were joined by scrum half Andy Gomarsall, who started his career at Bicester.
In their group, Marauders disposed of Oxford University and defeated the Fiji Spartans 33-7 in the semi-finals.
The Fijians fielded only one established international, Apolosi Satala, and the promise of an appearance by Waisale Serevi was not fulfilled.
In the final, the Thistles most dangerous runner Colin Sharman put the Scots ahead with a converted try.
Tries by Mark Appelson and Sheasby put Marauders in front, but Scottish inter- national centre Iain Fairley looked to have given his side the title with a try converted by Sharman. But Rotherham's Michael Wood sealed victory for Marauders.
Henley Hawks beat Northampton Saints 19-3 in the plate final.
Before the cup final, Henley's veteran forward Willie Phillips accepted a cheque for £25,000 from Barry Smith and the members of his testimonial committee, which is an interim payment of the funds raised by them for his benefit year.
