Villagers have celebrated their new-look shop with a flurry of activity, including a bouncy castle and wine tastings.

Minster Lovell's Crescent Stores Spar shop in Brize Norton Road has been officially re-opened after refurbishment.

The store now has its own bakery and is more spacious, with room for trolleys and wheelchairs. The shop, which has been run by the Lewis family since 1937, received a warm welcome from local shoppers.

Alongside the re-opening, Oxford's Helen House Hospice was chosen to benefit from £17,000 raised for charity by shoppers at Spar shops from around the country.

Shop owners David and Lyn Lewis are members of the Spar Shops' Red Dragons Guild, which raised thousands of pounds for four charities this year, including the Oxford Hospice.

Minster Lovell villagers helped raise some of the cash by making donations, taking part in cake raffles and other events.

Mr Lewis, who took over the shop from his father in 1972, said: "We've had some excellent comments.

"Customers are very pleased. It was very busy at the weekend."
