Chinnor has lost its cricket club to Towersey - a move echoing the departure of the rugby club 40 years ago.
The cricket club complained the outfield at the village centre playing fields was not up to scratch.
The club maintained the cricket square, but the rest was the responsibility of the parish council, which owns the playing fields.
It decided that the condition of the outfield and the pavilion left it no choice but to move three miles along the road to Towersey.
Chinnor Rugby Club made a similar move in the 1960s but moved again to its present HQ in Kingsey Road, Thame.
Parish council clerk Brenda Wilson said the village centre playing fields were a recreation ground for use by everyone and no club had exclusive use.
She said: "The local football clubs use the playing fields - the outfield of the cricket club - and it is open to the public.
"We know the pavilion is not at its best which is why we have a planning application in with South Oxfordshire District Council to renew it."
