David Summers, from Oxford City, had to settle for second place after holding the first-round lead in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon's Penfold Trophy at Burnham Beeches.

Summers led by one shot after his first-round 69, but he shot 77 as the breeze got up in the afternoon to finish two shots behind Colin Lumley, from the Lambourne club, who finished with a total of 144.

Nevertheless, Summers secured one of the nine qualifying places on offer for the BB & O Amateur Championship at Gerrards Cross later in the year. Frilford Heath's Ashley Walton

Ashley Walton (Frilford Heath) finished third, one shot behind Summers, while two other Frilford golfers also qualified - Andrew Elias and Barry Mann, who finished runner-up in the 36-hole handicap event.

*Frilford Heath's assistant professional Lee Jackson was a double winner in the club's Charity Pro-Am on Sunday.

Jackson shot a three-under-par 70 on the Red Course to share first prize in the professional's event with Ellesborough's D Fisher.

Both Frilford pro Derek Craik jnr, and his namesake father, whom he succeeded, both shot 74.

And Jackson led his amateur partners, Bill Simpson, Paul Brockman and Alistair Currie, to the team prize with a score of 15 under par.

The charity that benefited from the tournament was Vale House, Botley - a home for people suffering from Alzheimer's.
