Caring citizens who have given years of individual service to the city of Oxford have had their work recognised.
The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Maureen Christian, presented the annual certificates of honour at a special reception in the town hall last night for eight people nominated by their local communities for their efforts.
The successful recipients, who included people who have worked on behalf of charities and the elderly, were all selected by her with the help of an advisory panel.
Those being honoured were:
**May Lee, who has run the Northway Community Centre luncheon club for 30 years
**Sally Bainbridge, for a variety of community work, raising funds for the restoration of the sundial at St Cross Church in Holywell Street
**Barbara Guschtscha for being a leading member of the Florence Park Community Assoc- iation
**Maggie Smith, Dan Patterson and Paul Stedman, for starting up the 13+ youth club in Jericho
**Beryl Mitchell, for a variety of voluntary work including years as an active member of the WRVS, helping the Rose Hill Silver Threads pensioners' club
**William Mackeith for various voluntary roles.
