Plans to give easy access for the disabled into Thame's swimming pool have been welcomed.
The pool will have a movable floor that can be raised to give wheelchairs direct entry to the pool and a hoist when it opens in August 2002.
Christine Townsend, chairman of Thame Phab Club, which integrates those with disabilities and able-bodied people, welcomed the modifications. She had written to the council saying disabled people should have easy access.
She said: "At the moment, disabled people in Thame have to travel considerable distances to pools they can get into and out of with ease. Having these facilities on our doorstep will be very good for us and for other disabled people living around here."
The development, which will also include a fitness suite and dance studio, is to be built alongside the sports and arts centre in Oxford Road.
