Veteran defender Andy Leach helped Carterton Town lift the Hellenic League's Complete Music Cup for the first time - and then announced he was hanging up his boots.
The former Witney Town favourite played a leading role as Carterton beat Swindon Supermarine 7-6 in a sudden death penalty shoot-out after Wednesday's final at Fairford Town had finished 2-2 after extra time.
Carterton chairman Bob Taylor was quick to pay tribute to Leach's contribution.
He said: "I have got to be honest, we went to Fairford and I didn't expect to come away with the trophy, given what Swindon Supermarine have achieved this season.
"I feel pleased for the club and pleased in particular for Andy Leach who has hung up his boots and for Andy Slater (the manager)."
Now Taylor, who was celebrating a trophy in his first year as the club chairman, is hoping Leach will stay with Premier Division Carterton in some capacity.
"He is a good leader on the field and off it. He is a good motivator of players," he added.
*Paul Bedwell, Wantage Town's promising young defender, has signed a one year extension to his contract with the Hellenic League club.
"Paul's an excellent prospect and we're very happy that he's signed for another year," said Wantage boss Stuart Peace, who had been concerned that other local clubs were keen to lure him away.
