Unipart, the Oxford company at the forefront of a national drive to offer employees the chance to learn new skills, was today welcoming a Royal visitor.
Prince Michael of Kent was touring the Unipart corporate university, known as the Unipart U, at the automotive parts and distribution company's headquarters in Garsington Road, Cowley.
He was then due to have an informal lunch at the company.
Unipart was a pioneer of the stakeholder concept of company management. In 1993, it set up its own "university" which is often held up as a model to others of how companies can encourage their employees' lifelong learning.
The company has now extended its university and launched its Faculty on the Floor which brings continual learning to the shopfloor, production plants, and distribution centres.
Unipart says that employees may surf the Net in their down time, using football and pop music sites to familiarise themselves with the technology.
