Veteran Labour politician Tony Benn made one of his last public appearances before retiring at the annual Levellers Day in Burford on Saturday.
Mr Benn was making his fourth visit to the event which commemorates three soldiers from Cromwell's army in the Civil War who were executed in Burford churchyard in May 1649. Mr Benn was presented with a plate made by Witney potter Maureen Wilsker inscribed with words of the Parliamentarian Colonel Thomas Rainborowe.
The plate was presented to Mr Benn by Alan Hicks, one of the founders of Levellers Day, which is organised by the WEA Oxford Levellers branch.
After the presentation, Mr Benn joined in the procession around the town led by Morris dancers and banners. The wreath-laying ceremony in the graveyard was performed by Tim Healey dressed in Civil War period costume.
