A black Labrador saved the day for an Oxford pensioner by retrieving a missing wallet from a canal.
Former journalist Bill Fowler, 92, of Osberton Road, Oxford, lost his wallet in Thrupp, near Kidlington. It contained a photograph of his mother, a letter from his late wife, money, a bank card and his name and address.
Mr Fowler had reported the wallet missing but it had not been handed in.
However, a dog owner turned up at Mr Fowler's house with the wallet after her pet pulled it from the canal. Although the money and bank card had gone, the sentimental items were intact and had not been badly damaged.
Mr Fowler said that he was very grateful to the woman and relieved to get the photograph and letter back.
