Oxford East Socialist Alliance candidate John Lister is challenging his Labour rival Andrew Smith to join him on a picket line at an Oxford college.
Today, lecturers at the Oxford College of Further Education in Oxpens Road are to stage another one-day strike over pay as part of a national dispute by the lecturers' union NATFHE.
John Lister is a part-time journalism lecturer at the college and has pledged to join strikers again on the picket line.
He said Andrew Smith, who has been the Labour MP for the constituency since 1987, should "stand side by side with the lecturers in the fight for a decent pay settlement".
The union is demanding a pay increase to bridge the gap between college lecturers' pay and the salaries for school teachers.
