A man sexually abused three girls while they were growing up in the late 1970s and early 1980s, a court was told.

Paul Miles, 42, of Woodstock Road, Witney, denies two charges of rape, five charges of indecent assault and one of gross indecency between February 3, 1975, and April 14, 1983, in Witney and Wantage.

Oxford Crown Court was told on Tuesday that he raped two of the complainants - when one was 12 or 13, and the other was 16 or 17.

The youngest of the three alleged victims told the court how Miles sexually abused her and tried to have sex with her.

In cross-examination, David Bright, defending, asked the witness: "Why didn't you do anything about it?"

She replied: "I did, I stayed out his way."

Another alleged victim said she was abused by Miles from the age of ten or 11, and raped by him when she was about 16.

Mr Bright asked her if she had said 'no' during the alleged rape.

She replied: "I can't remember."

He asked her why she had not reported the incidents earlier.

She said: "I said nothing for 20 years because no-one would believe me."

The trial continues.
