People living on Oxford's Blackbird Leys estate have been promised a parking scheme to prevent an influx of fans driving to the new Oxford United stadium.
The last game has been played at the club's Manor Ground in Headington and the team will start next season at the 12,000-seater stadium at Minchery Farm.
City councillor Tony Stockford said residents living in streets like Knights Road, Kestrel Crescent, and Falcon Close, were very concerned that fans would park in their streets on match days.
At Tuesday's city highways and traffic committee, councillors agreed that a parking scheme should be drawn up, ready to be implemented if problems emerged in the first few games of the season, which starts in the autumn.
Cllr Stockford said: "Residents want to see parking restrictions drawn up just in case there are problems. Then they can be implemented straight away.
Cllr Stockford added that it was important that the cinema on the leisure complex next to the stadium was not allowed to open when matches were being played because too much traffic would be generated.
He said that this was part of the agreement between the council and the football club.
"If Titanic is showing when Oxford are playing Liverpool, we could be in trouble," he warned.
Cllr Peter Moss said that the parking situation should be carefully monitored during the first few games of the season to make sure it did not get to the stage where "fans tyres were let down".
Councillors agreed to apply to the county council for a traffic order for Grenoble Road, which would prevent parking there on match days.
A further report will also be compiled on parking controls for roads around the stadium.
