More than 30 people have called detectives with information about the man wanted in connection with the murder of a former Oxfordshire woman.

Police say they are delighted with the response after the case was featured on the BBC show Crimewatch on Wednesday.

Fresh pictures of Peter Airey, who was the former lodger of Carol Evans and is believed to be the last person to see her alive, were screened on the night before Ms Evans's funeral at Oxford Crematorium.

Her body was discovered on April 24 in an outbuilding at her Peterborough home. She died from severe head injuries and a post-mortem revealed that she may have been dead for weeks.

A total of 25 calls were received at the Crimewatch studios with information on Mr Airey and a further seven at the incident room.

Ms Evans, 40, who attended schools in Oxfordshire and held several jobs locally, left the county in 1999. Her mother Joyce Dee, of Laburnum Grove, Didcot, alerted detectives on April 2 when weekly telephone calls stopped.

Call police on 01733 424390 with any information.
