Chipping Norton's new mayor described the town as a "gem" at the annual mayor-making ceremony in the town hall.
Cllr Jo Graves has taken over from Cllr Graham Beacham, who has stood down after two years.
Cllr Graves, who works as a supply teacher, moved to the town 20 years ago with her husband, John, and daughters Naomi and Elene, who are now 25 and 23.
She has been on Chipping Norton Town Council for more than ten years. "As mayor I hope to pay back to the town the tremendous pleasure of being part of such a wonderful and very unique community," she said.
"I can't imagine another place which offers so much in the way of amenities.
"We've got a gem of a town and as mayor I intend this gem will continue to sparkle."
Cllr Don Davidson was elected deputy mayor and Cllr Gina Burrows was appointed mayoress.
