The JT Fox Commercial Oxford Cheetahs produced an awe-inspiring 46-44 win at the East of England Showground last night to go top of the Sky Sports Elite League.
Once again it was the Dryml brothers who stole the show. While it was Lukas who lorded it over Coventry on Friday, this time it was Ales who proved to be Cheetahs' hero with a score of 13+2.
Two meetings in two days had taken its toll on the Peterborough track, which was very slick. However, the Cheetahs were sharper out of the gate and this gave them the edge.
Things did not start well, as the Panthers skipper Ryan Sullivan scorched from the gate in the first heat.
Cheetahs drew level thanks to a stunning ride from Ales Dryml and from the improving Andrew Appleton.
In heat three, Todd Wiltshire and Steve Johnston were caught napping at the gate.
The Cheetahs had to wait until heat five to draw level, and it was Lukas Dryml who led the way. A battling display from Brian Andersen gave the Cheetahs their first max-imum.
The Dryml brothers have made heat eight their own at Cowley but had not always managed it away from home.
That was to change here though, as the pair leapt from the gate and spent four untroubled laps at the front.
More success followed in heat nine when Leigh Adams and Ales Dryml repeated the feat, to give the Cheetahs an eight-point cushion at the interval.
However, disaster struck in heat ten when Wiltshire hit the tapes against the strong pairing of Sullivan and tactical substitute Mark Loram.
Appleton was drafted in as his replacement, but a maximum for the Panthers narrowed the gap to just four points
Lukas Dryml delivered the goods again in heat 11, but the Panthers pulled back two points thanks to tactical substitute Sullivan in heat 12.
Superb action in heat 13 saw the Cheetahs hold onto a 3-3, while Johnston and Ales Dryml sealed the victory with a 4-2 in heat 14.
The Dryml brothers were rightly given the honours in heat 15, but Panthers went out on a high, although it was Cheetahs who had picked up the league points.
With the Poole Pirates losing at Coventry, the Cheetahs went top on points difference, with two matches in hand over the south coast club.
