A ten-year-old girl died in a car crash on the A34 near Abingdon early yesterday.

Azra Rawoot, of Blackburn, Lancashire, was a passenger in a stationary Toyota people-carrier that was struck by a lorry at 3.30am.

Seven people were in the Toyota. It had broken down on the southbound carriageway between south Abingdon and Milton.

Five passengers were trapped and had to be released by fire crews. Azra was certified dead at the scene. Three other children and an adult were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with serious injuries.

The lorry driver escaped unhurt.

*A 30-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital and three other people were taken by ambulance after a head-on collision yesterday between a Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Fiesta on the A4130 in Didcot. A man and a woman in their mid-40s and a 25-year-old man were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Police said their injuries were not life threatening.
