Around 2,000 homes in Oxford suffered a power cut on Sunday night (May 27).
The black-out was caused by the failure of a lightning arrester, which is designed to protect the electricity network. Southern Electric customers in south Oxford lost their power at 11pm.
Most regained electricity supplies within an hour, but 300 had to wait until 3am.
