Villagers campaigning for 35 years for a path to be built along a stretch of a 'dangerous' road have been a glimmer of hope.

Oxfordshire County Council says the prospects of the path in Appleton going ahead were stronger now it has money for new highways projects, but adds that the work will not go ahead for at least a year. As reported in the Oxford Mail last week, a petition signed by 150 residents was handed in to the council calling for a path to be built along busy Netherton Road.

The parish council has offered to contribute to the project. Member Graham Rose said: "It looks as if it will be a matter of priorities so we shall have to keep maintaining the pressure." Villagers are pictured during a protest about the path.
