Mark Batsford hit three 180s to help Quarry Gate A pip Cowley Community Centre C 5-4 as the Morrells Oxford and District Summer League got off to an exciting start.
Batsford's hat-trick of maximums saw him overpower Jim Jukes to put Quarry 3-2 ahead in the Premier Section encounter.
It came after wins by Quarry's Kit Young and Dick Foster had been cancelled out by Pete Jones and Pete Hall, who beat Joe Palmer, despite the latter hitting two maximums.
Cowley's Steve Willoughby levelled the match again after Batsford's sparkling success, but Quarry took the pairs 2-1 for victory.
Terry Sapey hit a brace of 180s as Railway Social Club A fought back to beat hosts Littlemore Royal British Legion 5-4.
Littlemore had led 3-0, but Sapey, Ollie Varney and Parker levelled the match before Railway took the pairs 2-1 to triumph.
