A 48-year-old man suffered serious eye injuries after a street brawl involving about 15 men.
The fight broke out in Shelley Road, Cowley, Oxford, just before 8pm on Monday, but information was only released by police today.
Officers said they believed the incident was sparked by a long-running dispute between families.
They said all those involved were Asian - but stressed that the incident had no links to the race riots in Oldham and Aylesbury over the weekend.
The injured man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and was still receiving treatment last night.
No-one else was injured but several cars which were parked in Shelley Road were damaged.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the fight, or knows anything about it, to contact them.
No detailed description has been offered of those involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call Oxford Police on 01865 266000.
