A laboratory technician received minor burns last night in a fire at an Oxford University science department.
The 25-year-old man was hurt when small quantities of potassium and benzine spontaneously ignited on his clothing during a decontamination shower at the Inorganic Chemistry building in South Parks Road. The incident set off a fire alarm which was answered by two fire crews from the Rewley Road station.
The technician was taken for treatment to the John Radcliffe Hospital where his condition was said to be stable.
