Sir Roger Bannister, the first person to run a four-minute-mile, will be guest of honour at Polstead Road Playgroup's 25th birthday party.
The playgroup, based at the St Margaret's Institute building, Oxford, marks its birthday tomorrow with a fun day at the Aristotle Lane play area.
Mr Bannister, who broke the record running along Oxford's Iffley Road, on May 6, 1954, will join the party with his four-year-old granddaughter Chloe, who is a playgroup member.
About 50 children and their parents will enjoy party events including a jousting machine, fancy dress competitions and a live jazz band.
Children's author Korky Paul will hold an auction of his books and artworks.
Children who have left the group and have now grown up are being invited to the party to sign a commemorative book telling what they do now.
Playgroup leader Joey Slessor, said she was looking forward to meeting former playgroup members during Saturday's festivities.
Parent Lisa Morgan, whose son three-year-old son Rowan, three attends the group, said: "The playgroup is local and means you and your child make lots of local friends because of it. Rowan really loves it."
