TOP box office draw Vinnie Jones can seem to do no wrong at the moment.
Jones, the former Chelsea and Wimbledon midfield hard man, turned his talents to the film world, but has kept his beloved greyhounds at heart and is a frequent visitor to Oxford Stadium - most recently last week while filming at Oxford Prison with award-winning director Guy Ritchie.
While most greyhound owners would love to have one Derby finalist, Vinnie has two, with Smoking Bullet in trap five and Countrywide Tams in trap one.
Mick Wheble, Oxford's promotions man, who also runs his own business Mick Wheble Sports Direct, received a frantic phone call from Vinnie's connections requesting 50 red and 50 orange rosettes in time for tonight's final at Wimbledon.
He has commandeered assistance from Oxford's own rosette producer, Joan Gibbs, to make sure the order is delivered on time.
This column highlighted the chances of Countrywide Tams some weeks ago when she was a 66-1 shot. She ran at Oxford in the Scott Taylor Charity meeting last year, finishing third.
Another who has run at Cowley and made the Derby final is Nick Savva's Sonic Flight who competed in the Pall Mall Trial Stakes, but didn't enter the race proper.
Last year's victor Rapid Ranger seems the one to beat for the £50,000 top prize.
The race can be seen on the TV monitors throughout the Stadium.
Full line-up (betting from William Hill): Countrywide Tams (14-1), Castlelyons Dani (16-1), Sonic Flight (evens), Rapid Ranger (7-4), Smoking Bullet (10-1), Droopys Honcho (10-1).
