The managers of an Oxford city centre restaurant claim their takings have dropped because of roadworks.
Bella Pasta, in George Street, claims its takings are down 15 per cent on the same time last year.
They believe work outside the restaurant to mend a broken sewer is partly responsible, and are urging the county council to make sure the work is completed on schedule next month.
Deputy manager Tim Laker said: "At this time of year we are usually absolutely packed, but that hasn't been the case recently.
"I'm sure some people don't think we are open. The front of the building is covered with scaffolding as well, for repair work, which doesn't help.
"We just want to reassure people that we are open."
The sewer work needs to be completed early next month, so work can begin on refurbishing Cornmarket Street.
Bus stops have been moved temporarily from George Street to Beaumont Street while the work is carried out. The switch prompted a complaint from the director of the Ashmolean Museum that pollution from diesel fumes could be damaging priceless paintings.
