Tim Whale lies 16th in the Club Formula Palmer Audi Championship at the halfway stage of the series.

The 26-year-old, from Banbury, looked set to claim top results but came away empty-handed from the fifth and sixth rounds of the 12-race series at Mondello Park, near Dublin, on Sunday.

In the fifth race staged earlier in the day, Whale was punted out of third place at the first corner, forcing him to retire on the spot while a second lap skirmish, when placed third, sank Whale's second race hopes.

The Oxfordshire driver, who has only contested six motor races having taken up the sport this year, had started the two 15-lap races from the second and first rows of the 16-car grids. Both races were won by Worcestershire driver Steve Warburton.

Whale's 'half-term report' shows a best race result of ninth in the third round at Donington Park.

The next rounds of the single-seater series, in which all cars are powered by 1.8-litre, turbocharged Audi engines, are staged at Brands Hatch on August 19.
